Deciding on an accommodation was one of the biggest "studying abroad" headache that I had.
So for those of you that have read my previous blog may already know where I'm staying throughout my studies here in Dundee. However, I've received some DM's in IG asking me bout my accommodation and also a couple of staffs at my university had also asked for me to blog/vlog about it, so here I am with this long overdue post! Keep reading for the pro's, con's and living tips at the Old Mills. Too lazy to read? Well then just check out my VIDEO down below :)
Well, I'm living in a 3-bedroom flat in the Old Mills at Dundee. There are studios, 2-bedrooms and even up to 5/6-bedroom units in Old Mills...so go for whatever floats your boat.

The office/reception. Located at the communal area.
WHY OLD MILLS?
Affordable. As an international student from Malaysia (don't get me started on that MYR/GBP conversion rate), Old Mills had one of the decent looking accommodation with a reasonable price (from £88 p/w).
Furnished. Yeap, the flat/rooms came with bed, mattress, study table, chair, book racks, mops, broom, iron, ironing board, cupboard, mirrors, sofas..etc. Plus, they have recently refurbished the entire blocks & rooms, so they were all super clean & brand new.
Location.
5 minute walk to City Center
Less than 5 minutes walk to the University of Dundee (no excuses to be late for class..oh man :P )
Tesco Express is right at the corner & Lidl is just opposite (super convenient for grocery shopping!)
About 15 minutes walk to the Riverside (amazing spot for a walk/run)
There are two GP services located across the street and is only a 2-5 minute walk; Nethergate Medical Center & Tay Court Surgery.
Security. The accommodation is equipped with CCTV's and secure passcode is needed to enter into your respective blocks.
Spacious. At first I thought a 3-bedroom flat would be so congested & overcrowded, but it turned out to be pretty spacious. I love how there is ample of space to move around and cook about in the kitchen. The rooms are not exactly large but it’s spacious enough and there’s room for all my things without it being stuffy - so yeay!

My room. Can you tell my favorite color is blue?

Shared kitchen & living area. This was obviously taken before all dem cooking mess (lol)

There's a bathtub y'all.
There's always the good and the bad and I'm not a believer in sugarcoat-ing, so here's the 'ying' to the 'yang' of the Old Mills:
There are NO lifts. You are one lucky monkey if you got the first two floors. But it's only up to the 3rd-4th floor, so don't fret. The ONLY time you will curse your lungs out when you are going up the stairs would be when you are 1) moving in with your luggage, 2) carrying groceries and 3) after leg-day at the gym lol. But hey! you get to be fit.
Make sure you check the mop, pails and ironing board given as it is not always in the best condition. They would happily replace em for you..so no worries.
Also, just a reminder, it is not a 'serviced apartment', so don't forget to bring along pillows, basic cutlery pots/pans...etc.
Oh yeah! You will be CHARGED for laundry. The fee is £2.10-2.70 for washing & £1.00 for drying. Though by comparison with other student accommodations, the laundry fee at Old Mills is one of the cheapest. (I can hear my very Indian parents saying "wash your clothes by hand! save money!").

Can I just say how thankful I am for amazing flatmates. Together we have bought kitchen utensils, shower essentials, rugs, dryer rack..etc and managed to decorate our temporary home & keeping it cosy, clean and tidy. YASS!
